These twenty-two series (the entire series can be found at: Videos - YouTube Studio) on the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ look at this area of Christian doctrine referred to as ‘Eschatology’ or the ‘Last Things'. As indicated in Series One, it is not regarded as one of the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. As such, many Christians tend to neglect studying the critical truths recorded in the Old and New Testaments about this doctrine. Because of this, teachers in this area have misled many regarding Christ’s return. In addition, numerous books and films produced over the past two decades, such as The Late Great Planet Earth and The Left Behind series, have contributed to increased confusion in an already complex area of biblical studies. The intent of this series is to add clarity in this area of study by providing Scriptural support of the biblical teaching on this critical doctrine. As stated, Eschatology is not an essential doctrine of the faith, meaning that it is not one that Christians must first believe as evidence of regeneration. However, it should be considered significant within the context of Christian doctrine, comparable in importance to other established teachings, even if it is not regarded as essential (cf. Eph. 4:11-16). The actions of individuals who have proposed incorrect dates—which have subsequently proven to be false—underscore the importance of this teaching. We may never know the extent of the harm caused to the flock by these teachers. Finally, when speaking of the Second Coming, Paul refers to it as “the blessed hope” (Titus 2:11-14). The fact that he makes this statement further underscores its importance. When the events spoken of by our Lord in the twenty-fourth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew begin to happen, the one thing that all Christians need will be hope. My prayer is that this series will awaken in your soul a renewed desire to study and learn more about our Lord’s return. Maranatha!
